Clinicians Slimwaist

Clinicians Slimwaist is a tablet containing 500mg of a concentrated extract of the natural herb Caralluma which is equivalent to 6000mg of the dry herb.

This Clinicians Slimwaist tablet contains no Dairy, Gluten, Sugar, Colours or Preservatives and is ideal for vegetarians.

The herb Caralluma grows wild as an edible cactus all over India and has been used over centuries in traditional Indian ayurvedic medicine to suppress appetite and quench thirst.

Recent research has backed up what the traditional Indian health practitioners already knew by isolating the active ingredients in Caralluma as Pregnane Glycosides.

Controlled clinical trials have clearly demonstrated that Caralluma suppresses appetite. This action is postulated to occur by inhibiting the hunger sensory mechanism of the hypothalamus.

As we eat, nerves in the stomach feed back sensory information to the hypothalamus. When the stomach is empty the hypothalamus signals the brain that food is required, & conversely when the stomach is full the hypothalamus signals the brain that food is no longer required.

The Pregnane Glycosides interfere with the messaging system between the brain & the hypothalamus which results in the brain being satisfied that the stomach is full when it is not.

Caralluma has also been shown in controlled clinical trials to help participants to feel more energetic and gain lean muscle mass while losing fa, by virtue of its actions in blocking the formation of Co-enzymes Acetyl A & Malonyl A. both of which are involved in fat synthesis.

Caralluma also increases the burning of fat as an energy source to fuel our body’s metabolism which helps the body lose weight by burning its fat reserves & therefore increasing energy levels as a result of that fuel burning.

Historically one main reason why most weight loss diet programs fail is that those programs rely on reducing the amount of fuel consumed as food – which in turn leads to the sensation of fatigue exhibited as low energy levels. We are literally starving ourselves of fuel.

Caralluma can have the triple effect of:

Not feeling hungry (so we eat less),

Stopping the formation of further fat cells,

While encouraging the body to burn its own fat reserves thereby keeping our energy level up & reducing fatigue normally associated with dieting.

Clinicians Slimwaist is best taken as ONE tablet TWICE a day 30 minutes BEFORE your main meals.

UMF Manuka Honey

Honey has been known since almost the beginning of time for its antibacterial & healing properties.

But not all honeys are created equal.

A small number of honeys in New Zealand made by bees feasting on the New Zealand native Manuka tree (Leptospermum Scoparium) has been proven to contain antibacterial & healing properties not found in other “normal” honeys.

This non-peroxide antibacterial property has been measured & standardised using the patented UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) which compares the honey’s antibacterial power directly against standardised phenol solutions.

A UMF 5+ Manuka honey has the same antibacterial power as a 5% solution of Phenol.

A UMF10+ Manuka honey has the same antibacterial power as a 10% solution of Phenol.

A UMF15+ Manuka honey has the same antibacterial power as a 15% solution of Phenol.

A UMF 20+ Manuka honey has the same antibacterial power as a 20% solution of Phenol.

The UMF declaration is licensed to only 29 Honey Suppliers in the world & obviously all of those suppliers are in New Zealand.

Each batch of honey from this accredited honey suppliers is independently sampled & tested to ensure that every UMF labelled honey is as it says it is.

The higher the UMF factor the rarer the honey. UMF20+ Manuka Honey is a very limited commodity & justifies a premium price for a premium product.

Worldwide supply of UMF20+ is very scarce & the amount of available UMF20+ Manuka Honey varies from year to year based on seasonal variation, & the demand worldwide is growing.

NZ Online Pharmacy is lucky to have secured a supply of UMF20+ Manuka Honey from one of the accredited 29 honey suppliers - Golden Flow Apiaries Limited (Licensee Number 1038).

AA SmartFuel

AA SmartFuel is a convenient way to accumulate fuel discounts from both BP & Caltex in New Zealand.

You do NOT have to be a member of the NZ AA to benefit from the power of accumulating discounts from purchases in AA SmartFuel retailers.

For those who are not Full or Associate Members of the NZ AA there is the AA SmartFuel Card which enables the accumulating fuel discounts but not the roadside assistance & other benefits enjoyed by AA Members.

Those AA SmartFuel retailers include (amongst others):

NZ Online Pharmacy- Free Delivery anywhere in NZ, or overseas to your friends or relatives.

Belmont Pharmacy - 143 Lake Rd, Devonport

BP

Caltex

Qantas

Hammer Hardware

Holden

Burger King

Thrifty Car Rentals

NZ Office Products

Firestone

Telstra Clear

It is as simple as making a purchase at any of the AA SmartFuel Retailers & swiping either your AA Card or AA SmartFuel Card.

The discounts from each purchase accumulate (in the case of NZ Online Pharmacy the discount is 15c per litre for any purchase over $100) and you choose when to redeem those discounts at the pump (BP or Caltex)

For example over the course of a month spend:

$100 at NZ Online Pharmacy = 15c per litre

$200 getting your upholstery/carpet cleaned by ChemDry = 20c per litre

Get a Warrant of Fitness for your car at VINZ = 20c per litre

Spend $40 on fuel at BP or Caltex = 6c per litre (4 times a month = 24c per litre)

Add all that up at it equals a massive 79c per litre off your fuel bill (up to a maximum of 50 litres)

That 50 litre fill will save you a massive $38.

It certainly beats the pants off other loyalty card schemes out there at the moment in NZ, where you have to spend a fortune to get a small discount off a smaller selection of available products.

AA SmartFuel gives you the ability to turn purchases that you are already making into hefty savings on a commodity that you use every day – Petrol (BP or Caltex of course!!)

Click here to find out more about AA SmartFuel

Belmont Pharmacy - As featured in Channel Magazine July 2012

Belmont Pharmacy

– A smart choice for locals

One of the most enthusiastic local AA Smartfuel Card outlets is Belmont Pharmacy in Lake Road, run by well-known local identity Allan Pollock and his wife Kathryn.

"It is a real point of difference for us," explained Allan, when Channel Magazine popped in to see him in mid June. "This is one of the busiest roads in Auckland. It is estimated we have 30,000 plus vehicles driving past each day and now we have a huge incentive to be the preferred pharmacy for a high percentage of these people. They can save on their fuel with every purchase."

Allan and his wife Kathryn are both pharmacists and have owned Belmont Pharmacy for over 20 years, since 1989. When they first bought the business Allan was one of New Zealand's leading mid-field rugby backs. When they met while attending pharmacy college in Wellington, Allan was a key member of the Wellington NPC team that included famous All Blacks Stu Wilson, Bernie Fraser, Alan Hewson and Murray Mexted. Allan followed 'Shore girl' Kathryn back home and they have been here ever since. He then played rugby for North Harbour and was also the coach when Harbour won the Ranfurly Shield in their historic victory over Canterbury in 2006. He has also had stints coaching overseas at Toyota and NEC in Japan. He currently oversees grade coaching at the East Coast Bays Rugby Club.

The Pollock family live locally, close to Takapuna Beach. "We love living so close to the beach. It's one of the best urban beaches in the world. We are very lucky," says Allan.

In addition to offering AA Smartfuel savings, Belmont Pharmacy also has other major points of differences. Kathryn Pollock is a trained Naturopath, so they offer a range of good health products as well as traditional medicines. Their focus of the seven-strong Belmont Pharmacy team is very much on providing the best service around health, so they don't stock non-health items items such as sunglasses and perfumes.

"With AA Smartfuel, we really feel we have an advantage over other pharmacies offering FlyBuys and the like," adds Allan Pollock. "We are the only pharmacy in this area to offer AA Smartfuel savings and with our local service station being BP – that offers the AA Smartfuel savings – the fit is just perfect,"

Belmont Pharmacy, 143 Lake Road, Devonport. Phone 445-8247.

Allan Pollock outside his Belmont Pharmacy.

For your interest here is part of an article in todays NZ Herald (Sun12th August)

The soon-to-be-published study, written by the University of Auckland's Dr Laszlo Sajtos and Professor Peter Danaher of Melbourne's Monash University, concluded that big spenders - such as people who did their regular grocery shop at New World - were well rewarded by Fly Buys, so long as they saved their points for big-ticket items.

"Hold on to your points and spend them on items such as a TV set or flights. The higher the retail price, the better off you are," Sajtos said.

Although the average value of a point was 17c, points were worth upwards of 30c each when spent on more expensive items in the Fly Buys catalogue - such as the Le Creuset cookware range and luxury leather bags.

A New World customer who spent $200 each week over three years, and picked up a couple of hundred bonus points along the way, would have enough to get a Phillips vacuum cleaner ($380 in shops) or a Breville mixer ($400 in shops).

But consumers who swiped their card occasionally would get only minor benefits, because eligible rewards like DVDs and beauty products were not good value when bought from points, Sajtos said. "You would be better off paying cash in the open market."

So to get a "free" electrical appliance worth $400 you have to spend $200 x 52 (weeks) x 3 (years) = a grand total of $31,200!!! (that's a % saving of 1.3%)

Compare that with spending $100 at NZ Online Phramacy & receive 15c per litre x 50 litres = an IMMEDIATE (don't need to wait 3 years) savings of $7.50 (That's a % saving of 7.5% EVERY time)

You do the Maths!!!

Melatonin & Sleep

Melatonin is a natural human hormone produced by a small gland attached to our brain called the Pineal gland.

The process of synthesising Melatonin starts with a common amino acid found in our food called Tryptophan. Tryptophan is also a precursor (building block) in the brains production of Serotonin. The pineal gland is stimulated to produce Melatonin, triggered by light sensitive receptors in our eyes that respond to falling daylight levels as the day moves into night.

These light receptors react primarily to the levels of blue light in the range of 460-480nm. This narrow spectrum of daylight (which is NOT present in artificial light) suppresses the pineal gland in its ability to make Melatonin. As the day darkens and the levels of the blue light drops the Pineal gland is stimulated to produce Melatonin.

Melatonin’s effects are well known in being one of the factors (amongst many) that influence how we sleep.

Melatonin is currently a Prescription Only Medicine in New Zealand, although there is an application for a 2mg Prolonged Release tablet called Circadin 2mg to be reclassified to a Pharmacist Only Medicine for use as a “monotherapy for the short term treatment of primary insomnia characterized by poor quality of sleep in patients who are aged 55 or over.”

Melatonin prolonged release 2mg (CIRCADIN) has proven benefit in facilitating onset of sleep, improving sleep quality, next day alertness and quality of life in people aged 55 years and over, with primary insomnia.

Melatonin is also naturally found in foods, and is especially present in cherries, with lesser amounts in other foods such as bananas, pineapples, grapes, rice and cereals, olive oil, wine & beer.

Research conducted by Dr Russel Reiter at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio has confirmed that, in particular, Montmorency tart cherries contain "an extremely significant quantity of melatonin - enough to produce positive results in the body."

Radiance Tart Cherry Sleep Capsules are a capsule containing 400mg of Montmorency Tart Cherry Skin Concentrate (Prunus Cerasus), but specifically makes no claims regarding Melatonin.

NOTE - If you have a NZ Prescription for Circadin 2mg, you can post that prescription to us & we will courier to you at no charge. Circadin 2mg is not subsidised by the NZ Health System and costs $......... per packet of 30.

Colostrum and “Leaky Gut”

The Problem

Leaky Gut – Sounds serious – and it can be, and it is a lot more common than people may think.

Leaky Gut or “intestinal permeability” could be the cause of many of our “lifestyle” chronic health complaints such as allergy type symptoms such as itching, sneezing, gastrointestinal disturbance, redness, stomach pain, cramping, diarrhoea and flatulence.

It is also highly probable that Leaky Gut is largely responsible for the dramatic increase of food allergies, inflammatory disorders (eczema, dermatitis) and other autoimmune disorders seen in today’s population.

A perfectly functioning gut is

the barrier (just like our external skin) between the outside world and our internal body

responsible for the absorption (or not) of nutrients

responsible for elimination (or not) of body toxins

And as such the gut is immensely important for the overall state of our health. The health of the lining of our gut should be one of the most important factors in our long term health, alongside the current focus of cardio-vascular (blood lipids) health.

A healthy gut lining is made up of specialised cells connected by “tight junctions” - which are like the mortar between bricks, and ideally the seal that these tight junctions provide are leakproof – so that the only absorption of nutrients and the excretion of toxins can only occur through the epithelial cells that line the gut.

Our modern lifestyle and dietary choices can weaken the joins between our gut epithelial cells so that toxins, microbes, and even minute food particles (in particular proteins) can leak through our gut lining in to our intestinal cells and in to our general circulation.

This in turn can lead to our immune system reacting to these foreign “invaders” or irritants leading on inflammation and allergy.

Those lifestyle, dietary, and medication factors include

Alcohol,

Antacids,

Antibiotics,

Caffeine,

Infections (candida, rotavirus, Clostridium, etc.),

Lack of dietary fibre

Low stomach acid.

NSAIDs – (Voltaren, Diclofenac, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Brufen, Nurofen),

Reduced probiotic numbers,

Stress

Part of the Answer (1)

Colostrum is a pre-milk made specifically by any mammal nursing mother to their newborn in the first few days after birth has taken place.

It is NOT milk.

New Zealand bovine (Cow) colostrum contains more than 100 compounds that assist and support the infant calf to maintain optimal health. This valuable Colostrum is collected once a year during natural calving from year round pasture fed cows. All of these cows are certified antibiotic free and free from hormones, and are also certified BSE free.

Cow colostrum is a perfectly balanced product for humans being low in fat, but high in protein, carbohydrates, and

High levels of natural immunoglobulins IgG, Ig E, and Ig M, which are all involved in our body’s self-defence mechanism used by the body to fight both viral and bacterial infections, and strengthens your immune system against potential allergens

Lactoferrin which acts as a powerful ant-viral and anti-bacterial, and valuable growth factors GF1, IGF2, TGF D2 & TGF D2 to nourish the newborn.

Growth factors which can assist with the regeneration and repair of injured or damaged muscle, skin nerve tissue and cartilage

The immune factors in Colostrum work to support healthy intestinal immune function and maintaining an ideal gut flora balance. The growth factors in Colostrum support the body’s ability to maintain healthy intestinal tissues, fat metabolism and muscle mass. Colostrum has been found to support the body’s natural healing and immune system processes (especially in the intestine), especially when you are run down or going through chronic discomfort.

The best colostrum products contain only 100% high protein, high IgG, agglomerated Colostrum with no fillers or artificial additives, and ideally have been produced by using a special low heat process to guarantee maintaining optimum biological activity.

Propolis is a mixture of gummy resin from plants and trees mixed with the bees’ own special enzymes and a little beeswax. This mixture possesses a high level of bioflavonoids and other naturally bioactive compounds which gives the propolis its’ antibacterial & anti-viral properties – the medicinal value of which has been recognised for centuries.

New Zealand Propolis (and other bee products like Honey, Royal Jelly, and Bee Pollen) is world recognised for its' quality, strength, and difference from every other countries bee products. This is most likely due to New Zealand’s clean green environment plus the unique biodiversity of its’ plants due to New Zealand’s remote location and physical isolation from the rest of the world.

The fact that we have long known that Propolis is good for us is now being backed up by scientific research which has isolated some of the bioactive substances that it contains.

These bioactive substances include Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPÉ), Pinocembrin and Pinobanksin.

CAPE has been shown to have antimitogenic (stops calls dividing), anticarcinogenic, and other beneficial medicinal properties. Many of its effects have been shown to be mediated through its inhibition of bio-chemical pathways.

Pinocembrin and Pinobanksin are flavonoids that have been proven to have antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory property. New Zealand Propolis has been proven to have significantly higher levels of these two flavonoids then propolis from any other country.

Propolis has been used around the world by many indigenous peoples for a wide range of infections including

Sore Throats(Stretococcus Pyogenes),

Sinus Infections,

Open Wounds,

Ulcers,

Burns,

and more recently Propolis has been shown to be effective against the gut bacteria Helicobacter pylori which is a major causative factor in peptic ulcer disease.

More importantly, unlike man-made antibiotics, bacteria and viruses do not develop resistance to Propolis.

Propolis – Nature’s Own Antibiotic!! – Made by Bees.

Caution - Individual known to have an allergy to bee products should NOT use Propolis.

1) Potent Spanish Olive Leaf extract 2500mg – Equivalent to Oleuropein 60mg

4) Zinc Gluconate 39mg – Equivalent to Zinc 5mg

Viralex Attack can be taken both as a maintenance “keep the bugs away” ONCE a day dose (think of it as insurance against getting ill)

OR as a more aggressive “attack the bugs” in a THREE times a day regime - for when you feel under threat from those winter ills & chills.

Click here to see the Viralex Attack product.

Spanish Olive Leaf

Contains, amongst other things, the active ingredient Oleuropein which has been shown to be a natural wide-spectrum antibiotic, with anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal actions. It seems to have these actions by being able to penetrate infected cells and inhibiting the bacteria/virus replicating making it very effective against colds, flu, and upper respiratory and sinus infections. Oleuropein is also a powerful antioxidant. Spanish Olive Leaf also contains other antioxidants Hydroxytyrosol & Tyrosol, all of which help the body fight inflammation

Andrographis Leaf

Andrographis paniculata is an herb native to the Indian subcontinent and is used in Ayurvedic (Ancient Indian) medicine for centuries for convalescence after fevers and has been shown to possess significant antimicrobial activity lessening the severity and frequency of colds and reducing the need for over-prescribing of antibiotics.

Pau d’Arco Bark

Pau d'Arco is a rain forest canopy tree native to South and Latin America. Pau d'Arco has a long and well-documented history of use by the indigenous Native Amazon peoples in the treatment of colds, coughs, flu, malaria, fever and respiratory problems. The antimicrobial properties of many of Pau d'Arco's active phytochemicals have been demonstrated in many clinical trials to exhibit strong in-vitro activity against various gram positive and gram negative bacteria, fungi and yeasts, and also in-vitro antiviral properties against various viruses, including Herpes I and II, influenza. In short, all the sorts of bugs that thrive and are easily communicable in Winter

Zinc

Zinc is known to play a central role in the immune system, and the zinc-deficient often experience increased susceptibility to a variety of pathogens. Zinc has an influence at many levels of the immune system - from the barrier of the skin, to gene regulation within lymphocytes. Zinc is crucial for normal development and function of cells involved in providing nonspecific immunity such as neutrophils and natural killer cells.

Has your Doctor told you that your blood cholesterol readings are too high?

If so, the first weapon that the Doctor will reach for in the fight against high blood cholesterol will probably be a Statin medication.

Statins are one of the most widely prescribed classes of drugs in the world, and include drugs such as Simvastatin, Atorvastatin, Pravastatin, Rosuvastatin.

Naturally occuring Statins called Mevastatin and Lovastatin are also found in Red Yeast Rice. Lovastatin has since been synthesised and marketed by Merck as Mevacor, leading to calls for over the counter sales of Red Yeast Rice (a food product) to be banned in the USA.

All very well and good if you are looking for the "magic bullet" to lower your cholesterol without any input from yourself.

Lets go back to your cholesterol reading. The reading is made up of 3 numbers and 2 ratios

LDL - Ideally between 2.4 - 3.83 mmol/L (92 - 148 mg/dL)

HDL - Ideally between 1.05 - 2.25 mmol/L (40 - 87 mg/dL)

Total Cholesterol - Ideally between 4.34 - 5.91 mmol/L (167 - 228 mg/dL)

Ratio between Total & HDL - Ideally LOWER than 4.5

Ratio between LDL & HDL - Ideally LOWER than 2.8

LDL - Low Density Lipoprotein - Fluffy, Nebulous, Sticky - The BAD kind of cholesterol which can aggregate & stick to blood vessel walls causing Atherosclerosis

HDL - High Density Lipoprotein - Concentrated, Dense - The GOOD kind of cholesterol that we need to build cells, scavenge & clean up LDL, & is involved in the production of hormones

Total - We NEED cholestrol to survive and function efficiently. But the total amount and how that total is made up is crucial.

Other more specific Blood Cholesterol tests

Lp(a) - Lipoprotein a - A marker of heriditary risk of athrosclerosis - Lower the better -Ideally less than 550mg/L

Apo B - Apoprotein B - A specific type of LDL - Ideally less than 1.2g/L

hsCRP - High Sensivity C-Reactive Protein A measure of inflammation which can indicate an increased risk of atherosclerosis - Ideally less than 5mg/L

However there are a number of things you can do to improve your cholesterol numbers.

Exercise more - Increases HDL & lowers LDL - Click here to watch an amazing video

Reduce daily intake of Saturated Fats (Non-lean Meat & Full-fat Dairy) - Will assist in reducing LDL & increasing HDL

Increase daily intake of Dietary Fibre - Reduces Apo B & LDL

Reduce daily intake of fresh Coffee (Expresso & Plunger) - Coffee can increase LDL

Daily Supplementation (In alphabetical order)

Co-enzyme Q10 (Anti-oxidant) - Click here for Clinicians Co-enzyme Q10

Garlic

Omega 3 Fish Oils - Reduces LDL & hsCRP levels - Click here for Good Health Omega 3

Of course there are many more types of supplements that can make a difference, depending on who you are & what stage of life you are in.
